Have you ever seen a quoll, bilby or dunnart? Well, at Sydney Wildlife World you can!

In the Nocturnal habitat, visitors can see gliders, ghost bats, possums and many other nocturnal animals that most of us would otherwise never see in an entire lifetime.

Nocturnal animals are active at night. So in our Nocturnal habitat it’s always night time during opening hours. The lighting in this habitat is on a reverse cycle, which turns our day into their night, and vice versa. This means that when you visit, you will see the animals at their most active time.

Adjust your eyes to the light and you will notice that most nocturnal animals have features which help them in the dark. For example, the bilby, which has huge ears for listening for prey or predators, a long delicate nose for finding food by smell and sensitive whiskers to feel its way around, especially within its burrow.

To find a mate or warn off others, many nocturnal animals also have a loud voice so they can be heard when they can’t be seen. Even geckos call out in the night, making them one of very few vocal reptiles.

Treat yourself to a rare sight of Australia’s bush nightlife in this habitat. See what the quolls and other nocturnal animals get up to after dark as they venture across the forest floor while Sugar Gliders fly between the trees.
